Christianity was brought to India by St Thomas (Doubting Thomas) somewhere in 50AD. Later in the sixteenth century another saint, Saint Francis Xavier spread the word of Christ in India. Saint Francis’ body is still preserved in the Church of Bom Jesus in Goa.

Here a cross shines at night in the metropolitan city of Bengaluru in Southern India on top of one of the many churches of the city.

Bangaloreans are very religious people and they are of all faiths. Temples on the roadside like this are common. So are shrines to Christian saints. One can see mosques, temples, churches and gurdwaras all over the city.

This man driving on his scooter has even stopped holding on to the scooter handle bars as he joins his hand in prayer while driving on the road near Ulsoor lake. The Gurdwara below is also near the lake. It attracts many people from the Punjab and offers free shelter and food to weary travellers.
